History of Meridian, IdahoSunset in Meridian Idaho

Meridian was established as a town in 1891 just north of the present-day site of Onweiler Farm but was named Hunter. Just two years later, some residents created an IOOF Lodge that called itself Meridian since it was situated on the Boise Meridian, eventually renaming the town as well.

The earliest area settlers lived near Five Mile Creek, where they had access to running water all year. The town’s first school was opened in 1885, and the infamous creamery opened in 1897, which would later be accompanied by numerous other businesses related to dairy. Meridian was incorporated in 1903 and was only home to about 200 people.
